PA Ranked #25 for Best Jobs in America

Physician Assistant at #25 in Glassdoor Rankings of Best Jobs

PA comes in at #25 for Best Jobs in America according to Glassdoor. The report ranks jobs based on three factors: number of job openings, salary and job satisfaction. Not quite as good as #3 according to the U.S. World and News report, but still a good ranking.

Glassdoor is one of the largest and fastest growing job sites in the world today. Set apart by the tens of millions of reviews and insights provided by employees and candidates, Glassdoor combines all the jobs with this valuable data to make it easy for people to find a job that is uniquely right for them. As a result, Glassdoor helps employers hire truly informed candidates at scale through effective recruiting solutions like job advertising and employer branding products. Launched in 2008, Glassdoor now has reviews and insights for more than 740,000 companies in more than 190 countries.

According to the report the median base salary for PAs was $104,000 and there are 5,517 job openings.

“This report highlights jobs that stand out across three key factors: earning potential, hiring demand and job satisfaction. In particular for job satisfaction, our research shows that higher pay is statistically linked to higher satisfaction, but the impact is actually small. Money can buy happiness, but other workplace factors actually have a larger impact on your overall satisfaction — including culture and values, career opportunities and the quality of senior leadership. Because many of these positions are in fast-growing industries like tech, health care and finance, where competition for talent is fierce, we’re not surprised to see highly sought after positions like data scientist and occupational therapist reporting high satisfaction. Plus, we are currently experiencing a strong labor market with almost 6 million open jobs, hence, corporate recruiters are in especially high demand, as companies need help finding the right people for all of the other in-demand jobs — and, these employees report strong job satisfaction because they are uniquely positioned to help others find their own dream jobs.”

A further look into the data they have on PAs. As of February 5, 2018 PAs have an average base pay of $106,873 with additional cash compensation on average of $10,000. This data comes from 1,905 salaries that were anonymously submitted to Glassdoor by Physician Assistant employees.

This is on the higher end of PA salary reports from 2017, which mostly comprises data from 2016. As with other reports this does demonstrate that PA salaries have been on the rise.

Besides just having a good salary the rankings also show that most PAs enjoy what they are doing, and you’re not going to have to worry about being employed as there are a number of job openings.

If you’re currently working as a PA then be reassured that you’re in a great career. If you’re thinking about becoming a PA or are in the process, this provides some great examples of why it’s worth it to become a PA.
