Where to Find Open PA Positions

Physician Assistant Job Search

You’ve just graduated from PA school and none of your clinical rotations turned into job offers. Now you need to start the job search.

If you done all the networking you can and nothing is panning out, the next place to look is at the organizations you know have a good reputation and you would want to work. If there is a hospital or clinic in your area and you know that you’d want to work there, start by looking at the company website. Most organizations have a “career opportunity” web page and this can be a great place to look for jobs.

If you’re looking at a small private practice they might not have the resources to have in-house recruitment services, so they might use an outside service. In my experience you can usually still contact the office manager to learn the best way to apply for an open position. They might give you the information for the recruiting service, but it gets you to the right place.

After you checked around at local places and still have no bites, another place to look for physician assistant jobs are on job boards. Websites like indeed and glassdoor have general job listings for all types of careers and can be one of many resources to use.

Another option is checking AAPA JobSource or the job board on the website of your state chapter. Another healthcare related job board is healthecareers.

Besides looking for jobs yourself you could also go through a recruiter. Recruiters typically work with certain organizations to help them find employees. I’ve worked with recruiters in the past and it helped me get some interviews. I ended up not taking the jobs, but it can help you get in the door.

The downside to working with recruiters is that once you give them your information you’ll probably never stop hearing from them. Depending on your situation that might be what you want, but if you’re happy with where you end up the constant emailing and phone calls can be a bit overwhelming.

There are a lot of places to look for PA job openings. First, start close to home with places you are familiar with; if you need to broaden your search use online job boards and recruiters. If you’re looking for a new job think of the search as full time work. Keep track of all the jobs you’ve applied to and make sure to follow up once you’ve applied. It can feel daunting looking for a new job, but if you stay on top of it you’ll have the offers pouring in as PAs are in demand.
