Physician Assistant Takes Top Spot for Best Jobs in Health Care in 2019

Looking for a career in health care? Look no further. U.S. News and World Report recently released a list of the 2019 Best Heath Care Jobs, and Physician Assistant came in at number one.

For jobs to be included in the rankings U.S. News and World Report used data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statics. Using data on jobs with the largest projected number of openings from 2016 to 2026 they came up with a list of jobs to be ranked. The careers were ranked based on seven component measures. Each component was given a score between 0 and 10, and weighted to compute an overall score. The seven components included: median salary, employment rate, 10-year growth volume, 10-year growth percentage, future job prospects, stress level and work-life balance.

PAs made a median salary of $104,860 in 2017. This is not the highest median salary in health care, but what makes PA the best job in health care is more than just the salary. Unemployment for PAs was very low with an unemployment rate of 0.8%. This number is expected to remain low with plenty of opportunities for PAs in the future; with an expected growth of 37.4% between 2016 and 2026.

If you’re looking to move, you might want to consider checking out Cedar Rapids, Iowa as PAs there had the highest average salary of $146,870.  The best paying state for PAs was Washington with a mean salary of $120,200. Beyond geographic location, factors such as specialty, industry and employer have a large role in PA salary.

According to the report other related jobs to PA included nurse anesthetist, nurse practitioner, physician and registered nurse.
