PA Student Scholarships

Scholarships for Physician Assistant Students

You’ve made it through undergrad without having to take out student loans. You were able to receive scholarships and grants to help pay for your education thus far. Possibly, you were able to work part time or even full time to help cover the cost of your education. You’ve now been accepted to PA school and plan on relying on those same methods to help pay for PA school and wondering if this is possible.

Working during PA school is probably not a real option. I know some people who worked very limited amounts that helped them have a little extra spending money during school but not enough to fund their entire PA education. If you can’t earn money the next best option is to try and save as much as you can while you’re in school.

You can still apply for scholarships but they are not as abundant as the scholarship opportunities available for undergrad. The best option is to check with the programs that you are applying to and see if they have school specific scholarships. It is going to take some time to fill out scholarship applications so you’ll have to decide if it is worth your time to work on something that is not guaranteed money.

Most of the scholarships that I’ve seen for PA students are in the range of $1000 – $2000 and will mostly help with the cost of books and equipment, so chances are you’ll still need to look at other options for paying for your education such as student loans.

PA State Chapters
Depending on what state your school is in or where you have residency there might be scholarships available through the PA state chapters.

The Montana Academy of PAs offers two $2000 scholarships to Montana residents who are planning on practicing in Montana after they have completed a PA program. Find the application online at http://www.mtapa.com/page/Scholarship

University Scholarships
Once you’ve been accepted to a PA program check with your school to see if they have any scholarships available. Often donors will give money to a specific program only for students that are attending that program.

The options are somewhat limited but there are some opportunities to receive scholarships for your PA education. It by no means is going to cover the cost of PA school but can help ease the burden.
