NCCPA Report Shows Effects of COVID-19 on PA Practice

Did COVID-19 Change Your Practice?

In a recent report from the NCCPA, 12.2% of respondents had been furloughed in 2020, and an additional 4.4% were laid off from their primary employer. Many of these PAs were not paid during this time, which will lead to a decrease in annual salaries for 2020 salary reports.

Not only were salaries decreased during this time, but some organizations also cut benefits, such as CME allowances, to make up for the loss of production.

Even though not all PAs changed their clinical hours, many reported a higher level of burnout than in previous years. The report also showed a shift to virtual medicine as well as other meetings.

The past year has been a difficult one for everyone, especially those in the medical profession. The constantly changing recommendations forced us to be flexible in how we approached our work. Many of us lost jobs or furloughed for part of the year, but as PAs, we can change practice settings, allowing our profession to be more adaptable in certain circumstances.
