PA Week 2017 October 6-12

“Each year from October 6-12, we celebrate National PA Week, which recognizes the PA profession and its contributions to the nation’s health.

This week is also an opportunity to raise awareness and visibility of the profession. Before it was a week long event, National PA Day was first celebrated on October 6, 1987, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the first graduating class of PAs from the Duke University PA program. October 6 is also the birthday of the profession’s founder, Eugene A. Stead, Jr., MD. Now the profession is 50 years strong!”

Physician Assistants are medical professionals that are certified nationally and licensed by the state in which they practice. They provide medical care to patients as a part of a team with physicians and other providers. PAs are able to make medical diagnosis and treat patient’s illnesses, including writing prescriptions. They are used in almost all medical settings including; primary care, hospital care, surgery, emergency room and much more.

Each year we celebrate PA week from October 6 to 12. As PAs this is a time to help educate others on the PA profession. There are a variety of ways in which you can help do this. As mentioned in my post from last week I’ll be doing daily posts this week to celebrate PA week so sign up to receive future posts by email and follow along!

Happy PA week!
